From your chairperson Helen
Hi everyone,
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and that 2012 will be a good year
for you. The people who attended our Christmas Party at Diggers really
enjoyed themselves; we all had a lovely meal. Thank you Kerry & Rae
for the goodie bags.
Our gallery was very sucessful in the weeks leading up to Christmas
with lots of sales, we are becoming known for our art and craft items
that we sell there. We have people comming back looking for things
that are often already sold, not bad for our first year, should just
keep getting better.
We are all busy making more items for sale, and we have ican`s 10th
birthday comming up in March so it would be good to participate in
that exhibition. Anything about the word or letter 10 will be great.
We are also knitting to wrap trees and chairs so if you can help out
it would be good to see you. 19th January is a LOVE workshop which
means making things for the February exhibition as it incorporates
Valentine’s Day.

Thirroul Festival - ART ALIVE! - 2012

Dear Artists,

The Thirroul Seaside and Arts Festival is now planning events for next year. It sounds a long way off, but we hope you will give some thought to your calendar for the 'usual' date - that cross-over weekend between March and April, next year.

For the artists working in the street, the name has been changed.  Art Alive! is the name and Saturday 31st March 2012 is the day for setting up your painting, drawing or craftwork in the street or in Jackson Park.

This event runs at no cost to the artists. Artists creating their paintings and drawings or their craft are all welcome, and provide interest and colour for the festival, whilst being able to show their skills to the visiting public and have some finished items, such as original work or cards available for sale. You will have space for your painting gear, a single table and shade umbrella, but not space for a market stall set-up.

It is envisaged that artists will either stand alone or in groups through the town or in Jackson Park (and maybe around the Community Centre this time).  Since last year, Jackson Park has been provided with seating and some young trees, and the children's events and Animal Farm are expected to be set up there as usual. It may even be possible to have artists in the beachside park on the Sunday, in a separate grassed area to the north of the main events, if there is enough interest.

Several artists might like to get together and design a hands-on activity for the public, and this would be very popular and might attract a sponsor's contribution for materials. Let us know if you have any ideas!

More information will be sent after Christmas, but please do consider making this a date in your diary, to paint in the open - maybe paint 'the scene' - engage with potential customers and certainly have a lot of fun!

Please let us know if you would like to participate in Art Alive! next year; if you have artist friends who would like to be included, send us their details or ask them to contact us.

Yours sincerely,

Christine Hill and Carol Roderick

PS The Thirroul Seaside & Arts Festival is a charity fund-raising event and Merchant Stalls are available, at a cost, for artists and craftspeople who wish to concentrate on selling their wares, either on Saturday in the street, or on Sunday at the beachside park. These stalls are available via the Festival Committee on the website www.thirroulfestival.com/contactus.

Dear Artists and Artisans,

I thought you might be interested in the following event I am organising on 12 November 2011 in Wollongong as part of Viva La Gong.

I am inviting Knitters to Knit Wool on Gong at MacCabe Park, Wollongong to make the largest blanket in one day. The event aims to celebrate the spirit of our community and give pride in what Wollongong artisans can do together. Knit Wool on Gong will be one activity at Viva La Gong, where you can enjoy likeminded people and the Festivals vibrancy.

Attached is a poster for the event and I hope you are able to help distribute this to your mailing list.

Thank you for your help and consideration.

Kind regards,

Claudia

Hi All,
We are so very happy (and relieved!) to announce that our September
market will go ahead on Sunday 18th September in Pioneer Hall.
IMPORTANT!
TABLES & CHAIRS
Pioneer Hall have limited tables and we're not yet sure about chairs,
therefore we are asking everyone to bring their own.  If you cannot
access a table, please let us know and we can let you know whether we
can help once we have access to the hall.
MARKET HOURS
We are going to extend the market by an hour so we will now trade from
11am - 4pm (All stalls must be ready to trade by 11am)
MARKETING
The date change means we have much more time to spread the word -
hooray!  Em will be sending out an adjusted e-flyer ASAP, and is
busily printing stickers to attach to our flyers - with any luck we
will be handing out hordes of them on Friday in the Crown St Mall!
Thanks to everyone for your support, and for being patient through
this difficult time.

ART4refugees 2011

Dear Artist

SCARF invites you to support ART4refugees 2011

Thanks to our generous supporters, last year’s ART4refugees was a huge success, raising over $16,000 to support the work of SCARF (Strategic Community Assistance to Refugee Families).

ALL proceeds from the sale of works donated to ART4refugees directly funds programs run by SCARF, an independent not-for-profit organisation that works with families granted humanitarian visas to navigate their way through all aspects of Australian life.

This year, ART4refugees is being held at The Illawarra Grammar School (TIGS) from Friday 30th September to Sunday 2nd October 2011.

We would be delighted if you could donate an artwork to this very worthwhile cause.

As Sharyn Mackenzie, SCARF’s Program Coordinator said: "The money raised at last year's ART4refugees has enabled us to provide transport for our students to and from Homework Help sessions twice a week.  It has also has given us the ability to respond to diverse requests from the community, including increasing adult education classes and providing opportunities for young people through trips to the theatre and sporting events.  Thanks to our supporters, ART4refugees has become the major fundraising event for SCARF”.

For more details and to register your donation, please see www.art4refugees.org.au or phone 0417 166 011.

 From your Chairperson Helen.

I am back from holidays again, Queensland this time, the weather was
warmer there.
Our Pop up Gallery has come to a close but it was good while it
lasted. We had it for about 5 weeks and everyone managed to sell some
of their craft.
I thought we did really well.
ican@7 gallery at Port Kembla is also doing well, we have managed to
have good sales each month. Its just a pity more people are not
involved as we could have more variety in the gallery. The people that
are contributing though are doing a really good job and it is much
appreciated.
We are open most Thursdays from about
10am till 3pm,
otherwise you can ring and find out other times.

We had new people come to a meeting thinking they could just turn up
and join, they didn’t know that they had to bring a sample of their
work with them. This did cause some
dramas...so please tell people to bring work,
photos etc of their work with them to the
Meeting and payment...

Dear Members,

Please find attached an e-invitation to our current Towers Exhibition.

We regret that this invitation is being sent out a little late.  It's due to being too busy.

We still have 2 weeks left and you and your friends would enjoy coming to see the many beautiful exhibits displayed in the two Towers buildings.

Our current exhibition is also on display on our website, under 'Exhibitions' > Gov Phillips & Macquarie Towers & Chifley Towers > view gallery 2011.

Hope to see you there.
